The last scene of The Fifth Elephant, when Carrot manipulates Nobby and Colon into "re-recruiting" the striking Watch, shows Briggs' Carrot at his best. Briggs really gets to the essence of Carrot's having an innate authority, keenness and suppressed menace hiding behind the innocent mask. Planer voices him like a befuddled teenager who's always trying to please. His makes Colon sound like a sniveling would-be mugger, whereas Brigg' voices him like the pompous older windbag he really is. Planer, on the other hand, voices Detritus like a scratchy voiced lower level street thief. The way Briggs voices Detritus classic diplomatic response, "It's so kind when people take the time to fink about these things" gets to the essence of the troll.
Briggs voices him as kind of a big, "percussion-voiced" ox who is trying to hide his innate intelligence and irony under a veneer of 'fickness.' The best example of this I can point out is in Snuff when he is responding to the Koom Valley's socialite's statement that she's cleaned out the stables for Brick and Detritus.
